Gillette Stadium Charter Bus: Getting a Group There
A Gillette Stadium charter bus parks in Lot 52, on the far side of Route 1, and your group walks from there. The stadium states that for all full stadium events, oversize vehicles "are not allowed in parking lots on the stadium side of Route 1," so every OurBus Charters vehicle above a passenger van lands in the same place. Plan the walk rather than a drop-off at the gate.
Then there's the October 31 wrinkle, and it's the reason this post exists. MBTA runs an event train to every Patriots home game, but Gillette has confirmed there will be no special event train for the Navy-Notre Dame game. A day that would normally offer a rail alternative doesn't have one.
The bottom line: two Gillette days, two different problems. A Patriots Sunday has rail as a fallback. October 31 has Route 1 and nothing else.

How does October 31 differ from a Patriots Sunday?
Two differences decide the plan: there is no event train on October 31, and the lots may clear immediately after the game rather than two hours later. The 99th Navy-Notre Dame game kicks off at noon on Saturday, October 31, 2026, with Navy as the designated home team — the first time the rivalry has been played in New England and Notre Dame's first appearance at Gillette. We ran both kinds of event day through the stadium's own published rules, and the rest of the differences follow from those two.
Navy-Notre Dame, Sat Oct 31 | A Patriots Sunday
Kickoff | 12:00 p.m. | 1:00, 4:25 or 8:15 p.m., varies by week. |
Lots open | 8:00 a.m. | 4 hours before kickoff. |
Gates open | 10:00 a.m. | 2 hours before, on recent event guides. |
MBTA event train | None offered. | Every home game, $20 round trip. |
Lots close | Not stated for this game; Special Events clear immediately. | 2 hours after a day game, immediately after a night game. |
Re-entry | Not established for this event. | None at Patriots games. |
Stadium-side parking | Prepaid pass only — and closed to oversize vehicles regardless. | Season members only, sold out for 2026. |
Read the closing times together and a real difference appears. A Patriots day game gives you two hours in the lot after the whistle, which is enough to let traffic thin before a coach pulls out. Lot closing time means the hour the stadium clears its parking areas, and it decides whether your driver waits out the congestion or joins it. For October 31 the stadium publishes no closing rule naming this game; its table clears Concerts and Special Events lots immediately after the event, which is the category a non-NFL game most likely falls into. Confirm it rather than assuming either way, because the answer changes how many hours you are paying for.
The rail difference is starker, and it is the reason the two days are not interchangeable. For a Patriots game, MBTA schedules event trains to Foxboro Station for every home game, leaving South Station and, for select events, Providence, arriving about an hour before the event and departing 30 minutes after it ends. Tickets are $20 round trip, sold through the mTicket app and non-refundable, and MBTA recommends buying before the day because they sell out. That is a real alternative for an individual fan and a poor one for a group of fifty, since fifty non-refundable app tickets and a single missed connection are the same problem. On October 31 the option isn't there at all, which is why organizers for that game are sizing a coach rather than comparing modes.
Where does a charter bus park at Gillette Stadium?
In Lot 52, reached through the P10 entrances. The stadium's parking page states that "oversize vehicle parking is located in Lot 52, accessible from P10 North and P10 South from the north and south respectively," and two recent event guides add that this parking "is included in the price of the event ticket."
Where is bus parking at Gillette Stadium?
Three details make that workable rather than vague. A driver coming south on I-95 wants P10N, which is the general-parking entrance serving lots 51, 52A, 52B, 54A, 55A and 55B. General parking is free for ticket holders and needs no advance reservation. And if P10 isn't open, the stadium says it will accommodate oversize vehicles "in the back of Lot 20 from the South or Lot 3C from the North."
What Gillette does not publish is a motorcoach parking rate. The parking page carries only two dollar figures — $150 for limousine spots, which does not apply to a coach, and the $50 Visa gift card for the 75-minute lots — and the oversize-included language above appears on other events' guides rather than on the October 31 page. So don't budget a bus parking fee from an article, including this one — call the stadium at (508) 543-8200 and confirm it for your date. We analyzed the Navy-Notre Dame and Patriots-Raiders event pages specifically and found that neither mentions oversize parking or Lot 52 at all.
The size rule behind all of this is quietly strict. Parking spaces are "9' x 18'" and "a parked vehicle with or without open doors, gates and/or accessories, cannot exceed these measurements," with each vehicle permitted one space only and passes that "cannot be combined to take up more than one space." An oversize vehicle is anything that won't fit inside that box, which at Gillette means every coach, mini coach and school bus, and the stadium says such vehicles "will be directed to the appropriate lot." Read together with the stadium-side ban, those two rules explain why Lot 52 exists rather than being a preference the stadium could waive on a quiet day.
Is there a bus drop-off zone at Gillette?
No, and that absence is worth planning around because it changes what you promise your group. There is no published motorcoach drop-off zone at Gillette. Limousines are explicitly barred from dropping off and are "required to park on site and wait for their party," and the only named drop-off point anywhere on the site is Lot 15, for Uber and Lyft. So treat the coach as parking and waiting rather than dropping and circling, and tell riders before they board that the walk from Lot 52 to the gates is part of the trip. The walk is the one variable nobody publishes: Gillette's parking maps are images rather than text, so no official distance exists, and it is worth asking your operator what they have seen on previous runs.
What time does the bus need to leave?
Work backward from when the lots open, not from kickoff. The stadium opens lots four hours before an event, which on October 31 means 8:00 a.m. for a noon kickoff.
Working backward | October 31, noon kickoff |
Lots open, coach arrives Lot 52 | 8:00 a.m. |
Leave Boston, allowing for Route 1 | About 6:30 a.m. |
Group boards | 6:15 a.m. |
Driver reports and inspects | 5:45 a.m. |
Gates open, group walks over | 10:00 a.m. |
Game ends, lots close immediately | About 3:15 p.m. |
Back in Boston | Late afternoon. |
Gillette publishes its distances but not drive times: 29 miles southwest of downtown Boston and 25 miles northeast of downtown Providence. Those numbers look easy and mislead accordingly, because the access constraint isn't distance. Most groups run this as a Boston charter bus rental with a city-center pickup, and the 29 miles is the least demanding part of the morning.
That count-back is also why an early start beats a clever one. Arriving at 8:00 a.m. for a noon kickoff feels absurd until you read the road rule in the next section, and groups that split the difference tend to arrive during the worst hour rather than before it. In our experience the itineraries that hold are the ones that treat lot opening as the arrival target and build the departure time from there, rather than working forward from when everybody wants to get up.
Why does Route 1 decide the day?
Because it is the only way in, and the stadium says navigation apps don't know that. Its event guides put it plainly: "Access to Gillette Stadium is via Route 1 only. Ticket holders who use local roads will experience delays in arrival time due to road closures that are not captured by traffic and navigation apps."
The Navy-Notre Dame page repeats the same warning for October 31. Fans are told to use I-95, I-495 or Route 140 to reach Route 1, and those three approaches are the whole menu. This is the single best argument for a driver who has run Foxborough before, because a coach that follows a phone onto a closed local road cannot simply turn around.
Leaving is the harder half, and how you handle it depends on which day you are there. Gillette runs "Be Paid to Park" lots, 45 and 55B, where fans who agree to stay put for 75 minutes after the event earn a $50 Visa gift card — a useful signal about how long the traffic takes to clear. No official egress time or one-way pattern is published for a regular event, and several figures that circulate come from Foxborough's World Cup planning rather than a football Saturday.
The planning consequence differs sharply between the two days, and this is where groups get caught. On a Patriots day game the lots stay open two hours after the whistle, so a coach can legitimately sit while the roads thin and the group boards at leisure. On October 31 that option may not exist: Gillette's published table closes lots immediately after Concerts and Special Events, so if Navy-Notre Dame falls under that heading, your group leaves with everyone else whether you planned to or not. Ask the stadium which rule applies to your date before you build a departure time around waiting, because an 11-hour quote that assumes a post-game wait is worth nothing if the lot is being cleared.
There's no park-and-ride, satellite lot or lot-to-gate shuttle published for Gillette events, so those aren't options to design around either.
What can your group actually bring?
Less than most groups assume, and two of the lot rules trip up group organizers specifically. Gillette's published tailgating policy is short: tailgating may begin when the lots open, open fires are not allowed, all fires must be contained in a suitable device that stays movable in an emergency, fire pits with open flames are therefore prohibited, fires and grills must not be left unattended, and used charcoal must be disposed of properly rather than left to burn out on the parking surface.
Then the prohibited list, which is where group plans die:
· No outside catering. A catered spread brought in for fifty people is not permitted.
· No professional tailgates. The turnkey setup some groups hire is out.
· No kegs, no non-stadium portable toilets.
· No branded vehicles, which targets promotional and advertising vehicles rather than an operator's ordinary livery.
· No box trucks, no 18-wheeler cabs, no fifth-wheel or tow-behind trailers.
For instance, a corporate group that books a caterer and a hired tailgate rig has broken two of those rules before the coach leaves the depot, and both are the kind of thing a sponsor signs off months ahead.
Brief riders on the bag rule too, because it stops people at the gate rather than in the lot. Gillette allows a clear plastic bag up to 12 by 12 by 6 inches, a one-gallon clear freezer bag up to 11 by 11, or a small wristlet up to 6.5 by 4.5 inches. Backpacks, coolers, outside food and drink, and umbrellas are prohibited. Anyone needing an exception for medical supplies or dietary needs is told to email at least 48 hours ahead. That is a task for the week before the game.
Which other Gillette dates should a group know about?
Five Patriots home dates are set, two more are still unscheduled, and one scheduling clash is worth booking around.
Date | Event | Kickoff |
Sun Oct 11 | Patriots vs. Las Vegas Raiders | 1:00 p.m. |
Sun Oct 18 | Patriots vs. New York Jets | 1:00 p.m. |
Sat Oct 31 | Navy-Notre Dame | 12:00 p.m. |
Sun Nov 8 | Patriots vs. Green Bay Packers | 4:25 p.m. |
Sun Dec 6 | Patriots vs. Buffalo Bills | 4:25 p.m. |
Thu Dec 10 | Patriots vs. Minnesota Vikings | 8:15 p.m. |
Two of those deserve a flag. The stadium hosts a Revolution match on Wednesday October 28, Navy-Notre Dame on Saturday October 31 and another Revolution match on Sunday November 1 — three events in five days, which tightens regional coach availability well beyond the game itself. Booking the October 31 coach early is less about the game than about the two matches sitting either side of it, and associations moving several groups across that week tend to start from group transportation services rather than booking vehicle by vehicle.
December 10 is the other one. It's a Thursday night game at 8:15 p.m., and the lots close immediately after a night event, so the return leg runs late into a weeknight. That matters legally as well as socially. Under 49 CFR 395.5, a passenger-carrying driver may not drive "more than 10 hours following 8 consecutive hours off duty," nor drive at all "after having been on duty 15 hours." For example, a driver who reports at 4:00 p.m. for an 8:15 p.m. kickoff reaches that 15-hour ceiling at 7:00 a.m., which is comfortable — but the same driver on a morning pickup elsewhere would not be, and the waiting hours in a stadium lot all count as on duty. Put your real return time in the quote request so the operator can staff it properly.
Two things that are not Gillette dates: the Patriots play Detroit in Munich on November 15, and the 2026 Harvard-Yale game is at Fenway Park on November 21. Weeks 17 and 18 are home games against Denver and Miami, with dates the league hasn't set.
What does a Gillette group trip cost per person?
Foxborough is an unusual case: the bill is set by the lot-opening rule, not the mileage. Twenty-nine miles is an hour's work for a coach, but arriving when the lots open and leaving when the lots allow stretches the hold past eleven hours, and OurBus Charters prices by the hours held. That gap between distance and duration is the whole cost story here, and it catches groups who budget off a map.
50 fans on October 31 | 28 alumni, Patriots Sunday | 44 students, school trip
Vehicle | |||
Published rate | $200-$250/hr | $160-$180/hr | $130-$150/hr |
Hours held | 11 | 9 | 8 |
Trip estimate | $2,200-$2,750 | $1,440-$1,620 | $1,040-$1,200 |
Per person | $44-$55 | $51-$58 | $24-$27 |
Those are hourly-rate estimates, not quotes. Note the middle column: the mini bus costs more per person than the 50-seat coach, because a smaller vehicle spreads a similar hourly rate across fewer seats — so on a long hold like this one, filling a bigger vehicle is usually cheaper per person than right-sizing a smaller one. Short runs behave differently again, since the charter bus rental prices page sets a 5-hour minimum in dollars that a three-hour trip gets billed against; at Gillette the four-hour lot rule means you will rarely be near it.
Canceling 15 or more days before travel earns a full refund, and the balance falls due on the same 15-day mark. Count back from October 31 and your cut-off is October 16. You receive a full, itemized quote before booking, which is where any venue parking charge should appear. Your quote is locked in once it is issued. There are no hidden fees or last-minute price surges unless you make changes that affect mileage, hours, or vehicle type.
Going to a Patriots game on your own rather than with a group? A scheduled OurBus ticket into Boston plus the $20 event train from South Station gets one person to Foxborough for a fraction of a charter. That combination only works on a Patriots date, though — on October 31 the train half of it doesn't run.
Get a Gillette Stadium quote
Three answers make a Gillette quote accurate rather than approximate: your kickoff time, whether the group will wait out the traffic or leave with it, and which side of Route 1 you expect to be dropped on. The last one has a fixed answer, and it is Lot 52. Bring those to the free OurBus Charters quote form or call 844-200-2364, and a dedicated account manager will size the vehicle and lock the price. Operators in the network are licensed and DOT-compliant, with insurance and safety history verified — which counts for more than usual on a run with one road in. If your party is near the top of a vehicle's range, ask what a 56-passenger charter bus costs against two smaller ones before you commit.
How this was checked: the lot numbers, times and quoted rules come from Gillette Stadium's own parking page, parking terms, A-to-Z guide, bag policy and 2026 Navy-Notre Dame event page, all read on September 28, 2026; the rail detail from MBTA's Gillette Stadium destination page and Foxboro Event Service timetable; the schedule from patriots.com and navysports.com. Four figures that circulate widely are absent because no official page carries them — a bus parking price, a postgame tailgating deadline, a lot rule on alcohol or glass, and the walking distance from Lot 52. Kickoff and gate times shift with television windows, so treat anything dated here as worth re-checking in the week of your game. Gillette Stadium group travel FAQ
Where do charter buses park at Gillette Stadium?
In Lot 52, entered from P10 North or P10 South. Oversize vehicles are not allowed in lots on the stadium side of Route 1 for full stadium events, so the coach parks across the highway and the group walks. If P10 is closed, the stadium directs oversize vehicles to the back of Lot 20 or to Lot 3C.
Is there a train to Gillette Stadium?
Yes for Patriots games, no for every event. MBTA runs event trains to Foxboro Station for every Patriots home game at $20 round trip, sold through the mTicket app and non-refundable, arriving about an hour before kickoff. Gillette has confirmed there is no event train for Navy-Notre Dame on October 31.
What time do the parking lots open at Gillette Stadium?
Four hours before the event. For the noon Navy-Notre Dame kickoff on October 31 that means 8:00 a.m., with gates at 10:00 a.m. Lots close two hours after a Patriots day game and immediately after a night game. The stadium's table clears Concerts and Special Events lots immediately, but does not name this game, so confirm your date.
Can our group tailgate at Gillette Stadium?
Within limits. Tailgating may begin when lots open, but open fires and fire pits are prohibited and all fires must stay contained and movable. Outside catering, professional tailgate setups and kegs are not permitted in the lots. No tailgating end time is published, so confirm one with the stadium.
How much does a bus to Gillette Stadium cost?
An 11-hour motor coach day for 50 fans works out near $44 to $55 each at published 2026 rates, and an 8-hour school bus trip for 44 students closer to $24 to $27. Game tickets and any venue parking charge sit outside those figures and appear as itemized lines on the quote.
What can you bring into Gillette Stadium?
A clear bag up to 12 by 12 by 6 inches, a one-gallon clear freezer bag, or a small wristlet up to 6.5 by 4.5 inches. Backpacks, coolers, outside food and drink, and umbrellas are prohibited. Medical or dietary exceptions need an email to the stadium at least 48 hours ahead.
How far is Gillette Stadium from Boston?
Gillette publishes 29 miles southwest of downtown Boston and 25 miles northeast of downtown Providence. It does not publish drive times, and the distance understates the journey on an event day because access is via Route 1 only and local-road shortcuts run into closures.
